All the Sultan's Men (Suyuti)
Book

"All the Sultan's Men" is a translation of Imam al-Suyuti's text “Ma Rawahu al-Asatin fi 'Adami al-Maji'i ila al-Salatin”. As indicated by the title, it argues and establishes the blameworthy nature of scholars associating with rulers. Since the age of early Muslims when the Prophetic Khilafah ended and the era of Muslim kings and empires began, scholars have wrestled with the nature of the relationship between the ulema-class and rulers.

Some of our most illustrious Imams, such as Imam Abu Hanifah & Imam Malik, refused official appointments from rulers. Moreover, they refused to visit them in their courts. Others such as Qadi Abu Yusuf - the student of Imam Abu Hanifah - accepted official appointments. Such disparity in the way of dealing with the rulers was echoed throughout the time of the Tabi'in. Some scholars accepted appointments, while others criticized them and refused such an association.

Nonetheless, both scholar and layman require guidance on the correct measures to take in times of confusion. One may wonder, "When is it acceptable for a scholar to accept an appointment?" Or "When is it appropriate for a scholar to avoid politics altogether?" Others may ask, "Is there a middle ground between the two opinions?" Such questions require in-depth answers. Although this text is only an introduction to the subject, it provides clear guidance on what kinds of interactions with the rulers are blameworthy for scholars, and why.

A note on international orders: some countries may charge an import tax — IGI is not responsible for this.

On Prayers Upon the Prophet (Gems from ‘The Shifa’)
Book

Prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ are among the most important devotions by which the devout have approached Allah. Due to this, many scholars have written treatises and even books on its rulings and merits. It is also for that reason that Qāḍī 'Iyāḍ devoted to it a section of his celebrated work, al-Shifā’. While the section is short, it provides a valuable entry into such literature, distilling rules and benefits for the seeker in brief expressions and beneficial narrations. We selected this section for quick study and review, which will serve both the busy student and the working professional on the go.

Al-Shifā bi Taʿrīf Ḥuqūq al-Muṣṭafā, directly translated as, ‘The Remedy (or Cure) Through Recognizing the Rights of the Chosen One’, is one of the most celebrated works in the genre of Shamā’il. It stands uniquely amongst the works of Qāḍī ʿIyād as his most celebrated effort with many surviving manuscripts and commentaries found throughout the Islamic world. Shamā’il is a genre of works that deals with the life, characteristics, and descriptions of the Prophet ﷺ and his station.

Al-Shifā, as it is called for short, stands alone as perhaps the most thorough work in this genre, dealing with both the descriptions of the Prophet ﷺ, his station and his perfections, and with the rulings pertaining to one’s belief and treatment of him ﷺ. It is exhaustive in its treatment of the subject, expounding on topics that range from Allah’s praise of the Prophet ﷺ and his status and station before Him, to the obligation of loving him and what that entails. In short, the uniqueness of this work can be attributed to its holistic coverage of the Messenger ﷺ.

The Prophet's Night Journey and Heavenly Ascent
Book

Shaykh Muhammad 'Alawi al-Maliki delivers an absorbing account of the Isra' wal-Mi'raj that brings the reader almost into the story. Indeed it is a detailed narrative spiced with a simple commentary that attempts to reconcile various accounts or reports of the event that transpired. This provides a comprehensive reading that takes the reader on an experiential ride to feel the reality of this extraordinary miracle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. In short, it is very inspiring; exhilarating to the spiritual core.

"Praise be to Allah Who chose His praiseworthy servant Muhammad ﷺ for the Message, distinguished him with the night journey on the lightening-mount Buraq, and caused him to ascend the ladders of perfection to the high heavens to show him of the greatest signs of his Lord. He raised him until he reached the Lote-tree of the Farthest Boundary where ends the science of every Messenger-Prophet and every Angel Brought Near, where lies the Garden of Retreat, to the point that he heard the sound of the pens that write what has befallen and what is to befall."

Concerning Divine Wisdom in the Creation of Man
Book

Concerning Divine Wisdom in the Creation of Man is a selected translation and commentary of Imam al-Ghazali's treatise on the human anatomy and physiology. In it, al-Ghazali masterfully provides the seeker of religious knowledge a window into Allah’s creativity through the Islamic study of anatomy.

The study of anatomy for the Muslim serves as a potential means to fulfill two distinct goals:

  1. To increase one’s attachment to the Creator through a deeper appreciation of the details of His creation
  2. Or to become a professional with knowledge of diseases and cures

The broad audience of medical students, physicians, healthcare professionals, as well as non-medical seekers of religious knowledge will appreciate the details of human anatomy described by Imam al-Ghazali through an Islamic lens. Readers will also recognize that this discussion, though accurate from the perspective of modern medicine, reflects a distinctly different paradigm from that of modern anatomy and physiology.

Imam al-Ghazali asserts that there is a spiritual component to the human being, and that every detail of human anatomy is representative of Allah's qudra, His power, and His wisdom. In this text, al-Ghazali describes these spiritual purposes alongside the physical anatomy, with the same level of clarity and precision.

This edition includes Dr. Kamran Riaz's meticulous English translation side-by-side with al-Ghazali's original Arabic text. The translation is followed by over 150 endnotes from Dr. Riaz and Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia.

Morning & Evening Invocations and the Ten Sevens before Sunrise...
Book

“Morning & Evening Invocations and the Ten Sevens before Sunrise & before Sunset” is a litany arranged by the late Shaikh Dr Thaika Shu’aib Alim. In the words of the noble Shaikh, this necklace of invocations has been strung primarily with priceless gems and pearls from the Qur’an and the Sunna. In addition, a few radiant jewels from some of the Muhammadan awliya’ or “saints” have been included.

“This compilation of selected invocations is for all Muslims and not restricted. I beseech Allah Most High to bestow tawfiq, taisir, naja, falah and hidaya upon all who make this part of their daily routine.” – Shaikh Dr Thaika Shu’aib Alim (d. 15 Jun 2021)

Set in clear Arabic script with accompanying transliteration and translation, it is a beautiful and practical devotional work with extensive notes. It is arranged in such a way that one can recite the entire compilation every day or choose selected invocations for one’s needs. The attribution of every recital to a historical personage (with biographical notes) makes the work unique in its presentation.

This book contains ten different sections:

  1. Preface, outlining the back story of this text and discussing the role of du'a, and particularly a structured routine of du'a, in the life of a Muslim

  2. "The Basis," a selection of verses from the Qur'an which mention dhikr

  3. "Morning and evening invocations," the heart of the text, a sequence of 41 du'a from the Qur'an, Sunnah, and selected scholars, with attribution for each one

  4. "The Ten Sevens," a sequence of recitations from the Qur'an and du'a

  5. "The Seal of Prophethood," a traditional calligraphic portrait of the khatam an-nubuwwa that is between the Prophet's shoulders ﷺ

  6. Postface, a selection of several Hadith Qudsi and several verses from the Qur'an, along with commentary from Shaykh Thaika Shuaib, penned less than a year before

  7. Publisher's afterword,

  8. Biographical notes, which includes brief biographies of each Prophet, Companion, and scholar to whom one of the du'a in the text is attributed

  9. Obituary of Shaykh Dr. Thaika Shu'aib

  10. Notes & References, which includes 50 footnotes to the du'a in the "Morning and Evening Invocations" and the "Ten Sevens" sections

From the text:

“The reader should know that we did not compile this book for the one who denies the status of the Prophet ﷺ, nor the one who wants to find doubts in the miracles he performed….Our intention in this chapter is to document the greatest miracles and signs, both of which indicate the greatness of the abilities that Allah has bestowed upon the Prophet ﷺ. We have presented those miracles that have been meticulously studied and possess the most authentic chains of transmission. And most of what has been transmitted is undisputedly authentic, or almost so, to which we have added some of the narrations found in the well-known books of reputable scholars.

“If an equitable person reflects on what we have presented, from the beauty of his effect on people, the praiseworthiness of his life, the ingenuity of his knowledge, his ability to act with wisdom and understanding, the completeness of his speech and all his traits, whilst being a witness to the circumstances he lived in and the benefit in what he said, they would neither doubt the veracity of his Prophethood nor the truth of his call. And these characteristics alone are sufficient for a person to embrace Islam and to believe in the Prophet ﷺ.”

Studying the miracles of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ helps those who have responded to his call and believed in his Prophethood to reinforce their love for him, to renew their efforts to perform righteous actions, and to increase in faith (īmān). This is why Qāḍī 'Iyāḍ devoted a section of his celebrated work, al-Shifā’, to the discussion of Prophetic miracles. The IGI team chose to publish this section so that it might be easily available for study and review, which will serve both the busy student and the working professional on the go.

The Salawat of Shaykh Salih al-Ja'fari (Pocket Edition)
Print Books
This text is a collection of approximately 400 unique salawat composed by Shaykh Salih al-Ja'fari. Similar to the famous Dala'il al-Khayrat of Imam al-Jazuli, the text is arranged into seven chapters, with one chapter for each day of the week. However, rather than a collection of traditional salawat like the Dala’il, the Salawat of Shaykh Salih al-Ja'fari is an original text reflecting the knowledge, insight, and outpourings of the Shaykh.

Shaykh Salih al-Ja’fari was a master of the sacred sciences, and one of the most respected scholars of the Ahl al-Sunnah w'al Jama'at of his generation. However, although he served as rector of al-Azhar for many years, he is perhaps better known in the West today as one of the the foremost Arabic poets of the past century. These salawat are extremely beautiful, and the reader cannot help but notice their extreme beauty and eloquence. Even those who read Arabic at a beginner-level will benefit, while those who read and speak Arabic fluently will perceive many subtleties of the text’s language, composition, and meanings.

Throughout Egypt, Sudan, east Africa, southeast Asia, and elsewhere, thousands of people recite each day's portion of the Salawat of Shaykh Salih al-Ja'fari consistently. These salawat have continued to become ever more widely known and more beloved in the years since the Shaykh death, may God have mercy on him. It's possible to imagine that, in time, the Salawat of Shaykh Salih al-Ja'fari may become as famous and widely known as Imam al-Jazuli's Dala’il.

This compact and durable pocket edition ofThe Salawat of Shaykh Salih al-Ja’fari is designed to be carried everywhere, and will be especially useful for those who intend to read the salawat regularly or daily. Contains the same text as the beautifully adorned illuminated leather PU edition.

Miracles Manifest: 40 Hadith on the Miracles of the Prophet...
Book

Studying the miracles of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is a time-honored means for those who have responded to his call and believed in his Prophethood to reinforce their love for him, to renew their efforts to perform righteous actions, and to increase in faith (īmān).

Actions performed by the Prophets described as miracles are termed as such because humans are otherwise incapable of doing them. There are two types of miracles: the first type is an action that humans are theoretically able to do, but Allah has made impossible for them as a means of confirming the truthfulness of His Prophet ﷺ. The second type of miracle are those actions outside of a human’s ability. These are miracles that no-one would be able to perform except for Allah.

Out of all the Prophets, the final Messenger ﷺ was sent with the greatest number of miracles, the most magnificent signs, and the clearest proofs. The miracles of the Prophet ﷺ were innumerable. In fact, if one chose just one of those miracles, namely the Qur’an, they would never be able to count the thousands of extraordinary signs contained within it.

In this collection - one of many collections of 40 hadith which he compiled - the great Palestinian scholar Imam Yusuf al-Nabahani strings together a majestic and awe-inspiring collection of hadith that leave the reader astonished by the miraculous nature and life of the Beloved of Allah ﷺ. Among their many benefits, these miracles both confirmed his Prophethood and also proved his honesty.

This edition includes Arabic text with full vowels and the English translation.

The Testament to Faith: Forty Hadith on the Virtues of...
Book

This book is a collection of forty hadith narrations on the virtues of the kalima, compiled by the great Palestinian scholar of the late Ottoman era, Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani. The Imam writes:

"I had seen a precious book titled Tanbih al-Awwah fi Fadl La Ilaha Illa Allah penned by my master, Shaykh Muhammad al-Bakri al-Kabir....In it, he mentions one hundred and nine hadiths on the merits of 'There is no god but Allah,' which include a large number of repetitions. Thus, I selected from them forty hadiths, mostly sounds and good, eliminating repetitions. These are the best of the best."

While apparently simple, this significance and depth of this collection continues to reveal itself with each subsequent reading. As one of the narrations in this collection states:

"...if the seven heavens and the seven earths were to be placed in the pan [of a scale] and the words 'There is no god but Allah' were to be placed in the other, then 'There is no god but Allah' would outweigh them." (al-Tabarani with a sound chain)

This collection includes hadith from all the major collections, including a number reported by both Imam al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim.

Respecting & Honouring Our Messenger ﷺ (Gems from ‘The Shifa’)
Book

This book is an extract from one of the very greatest works in our tradition, the Shifa' of Qadi 'Iyad. The third such extract IGP has published in the past few years, Respecting & Honouring Our Messenger ﷺ is focused on the extraordinary level of respect shown towards the Prophet ﷺ by the early generations of Muslims.

Its seven sections include:

  • Important verses of the Qur'an on the subject of honoring the Prophet ﷺ
  • How the Companions رضي الله عنهم respected, honored, and revered the Prophet ﷺ
  • Respecting the Prophet ﷺ after his death, and when mentioning him, and respect for his Ahl al-Bayt and his Companions رضي الله عنهم
  • The respect of the Salaf for the transmission of Prophetic hadith and for his Sunnah
  • The importance of respecting the Prophet's Family رضي الله عنهم as demonstrated by the Salaf
  • Respect for the Companions رضي الله عنهم and devotion to them
  • The respect held by the Prophet ﷺ for his possessions, for his locality, and for places he visited or that are well-known because of him ﷺ

Many of the narrations in this book are astonishing, even shocking. They force us to extend our imaginations, to try to fathom the immense honor in which the Companions رضي الله عنهم and the Salaf held Allah's Messenger ﷺ and everything associated with him. Despite the fact that they feel unattainable, almost otherworldly, these stories are vital for us, because they give us a glimpse of how the best generations رضي الله عنهم honored the Best of Creation ﷺ.

The Beautiful Garden of the Merit of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq...
Book

A collection of forty hadith about the closest Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, this text provides a glimpse of the greatness of the most blessed among the Companion, and the greatest person ever to live who was not a Prophet, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq رضي الله عنه.

Imam al-Suyuti explains the purpose of this collection as follows:

"All praise and gratitude is for Allah, the One Who made Abu Bakr al-Siddiq رضي الله عنه the best of this nation, and raised his station above all stations by increasing him in belief and absolute certainty to be the leading scholar of Islam....

"To proceed, I have compiled forty hadith in this book...a concise text that will be easy to memorize for whoever wishes to do so from the righteous among us."

Rather than a comprehensive biography, this is a concise introduction to the greatness of Master Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه. Thus, Imam al-Suyuti concludes the text by stating,

"The reader should know that there are many hadiths on this topic, but this is simply a short sample for whoever wishes to become acquainted."

This edition provides Arabic text with full vowels with English translation on facing pages. The Companion who narrated each hadith is given, with the full chain of narrators given for some hadith. Citations for the source of each hadith are also included.

The Importance of Believing in the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Gems...
Book

The Importance of Believing in the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is an extract drawn from Qadi Iyad’s renowned work al-Shifa. This volume centers on one of the most critical pillars of the Islamic faith: the obligation for Muslims to believe in the Prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ. In this volume, Qadi 'Iyad emphasizes that belief in the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is not a secondary aspect of faith, but a central and essential requirement for being a Muslim. Through numerous verses of the Qur’an and authentic hadith, this text discusses why belief in the Prophet ﷺ is indispensable to completing one’s faith and entering Islam fully. It further explores the spiritual consequences of either accepting or rejecting this fundamental aspect of Islamic creed, and highlights the deep spiritual and practical significance of affirming the truth of the Prophet’s ﷺ message.

The volume delves further into the obligations that stem from belief in the Prophet ﷺ, particularly the requirement to obey him and follow his Sunnah (traditions). It discusses how, in the Islamic tradition, obedience to the Prophet ﷺ is intrinsically linked to obedience to Allah Himself, as the Qur'an repeatedly pairs the two together. The book examines how the Prophet’s ﷺ teachings, guidance, and example are meant to direct Muslims in every facet of life, from personal conduct and family relationships to societal and spiritual matters. It also demonstrates that belief in the Prophet ﷺ requires not only verbal affirmation but also deep internal conviction and action. Thus the outward declaration of faith (shahada) must be matched by an inner commitment to the teachings and example of the Prophet ﷺ, creating harmony between belief, words, and actions. This is the pathway to achieving true faith and spiritual success.

As one of a collection of curated extract volumes from Qadi 'Iyad’s al-Shifa, this work offers readers a rich, accessible entry point into one of umma's most revered texts. Imam Ghazali Publishing ensures that this volume, like others in the series, is meticulously translated and designed to provide timeless wisdom to modern readers.

Al-Shifā bi Taʿrīf Ḥuqūq al-Muṣṭafā, directly translated as, ‘The Remedy (or Cure) Through Recognizing the Rights of the Chosen One’, is one of the most celebrated works in the genre of Shama'il. The Shifa deals with both the descriptions of the Prophet ﷺ, his station and his perfections, and with the rulings pertaining to one’s belief and treatment of him ﷺ.

The Book of Intentions

“I intend.”

With those two words, our lens of perspective, and our entire approach to everything we do, can change.

The Book of Intentions a new translation of Kitab al-Niyyat by Habib Muhammad ibn ʿAlawi al-ʿAydarus, better known as abīb Sa'd. In this text, Habib Sa'd explores the transformative power of intention (niyyah) in Islamic practice. Rooted in the profound and widely-known hadith that "actions are by intentions," this book guides readers through the process of aligning one's daily actions with one's intention and purpose, such that every deed is transformed into an act of worship.

Throughout the text, Habib Saʿd emphasizes that the heart's intentions are more significant than physical actions alone; and that even small acts, when performed with the right intention, can yield immense spiritual rewards.

The Book of Intentions is structured around various themes, such as:

  • Visiting the mosque
  • Gathering for prayer
  • Cultivating relationships with fellow believers
  • Ordinary actions of everyday life

And more.

For each act, the author provides a detailed set of recommended intentions, highlighting the unique rewards associated with each one. Habib Saʿd also cites numerous hadith, along with many insights from the scholars and the tradition, to illustrate the deep-seated importance of intentions in the life of a Muslim.

As a whole, this text is a powerful exhortation for the believers to make every permissible action purposeful, including even routine tasks like eating and drinking, waking and sleeping, buying and selling, and being in the company of our family and friends. Through these practical examples, Habib Saʿd illustrates how proper intentions can imbue our daily lives with sanctity and purpose, and help us to live in a continuous state of worship in every moment.

Fundamental Principles of Tasawwuf
Print Books

The science of Taṣawwuf is the cornerstone of spirituality, and its practice guides the seeker toward sincerity, self-purification, and nearness to Allāh. This abridgment of Sheikh Aḥmad Zarrūq's The Principles of Taṣawwuf (Qawāʿid al-Taṣawwuf) presents the core principles of Tasawwuf in a systematic manner, with unparalleled clarity.

In this work, the illustrious author distills forty essential principles, or qawāʿid, from his larger work. Taken together, these forty principles allow the reader to gain a proper understanding of Taṣawwuf, and thus to navigate the intricate interplay of īmān, practice (ʿamal), and self-awareness. Although Taṣawwuf has often been misrepresented and misunderstood - in the author's time as well as our own - Sheikh Aḥmad Zarrūq helps us to situate this science in its proper context, in seamless connection with Islamic jurisprudence and theology. The text affirms unequivocally that true spiritual realization is only attainable through sound understanding of the Sharīʿah and ʿAqidah, and vice versa. Thus, true Islam is found in the holistic unity of outward adherence and inward sincerity.

Some key themes of this text include:

  • The relationship between faith, jurisprudence, and spirituality
  • The perils of extremism in worship and the necessity of balance in religious practice
  • The conditions for sincerity in remembrance (dhikr), and the transformative power of seeking Allah through His remembrance
  • The role of mentorship and the necessity of a guide on the spiritual path
  • Humility, ethical conduct, and adherence to the prophetic way in dealing with oneself and others

In an era of spiritual confusion and material distraction, this text provides a framework to attain clarity, and to attain sincerity in faith while fully engaged with the practical realities of everyday life. Qawāʿid al-Taṣawwuf is as relevant today as it was centuries ago, and this abridgement makes it more accessible accessible to modern readers.

This new bilingual abridgment, with commentary based on the author's writings, renders the wisdom of Sheikh Aḥmad Zarrūq more accessible to a modern audience, preserving the essential framework of his thought while elegantly outlining and clarifying its nuances for contemporary readers.

How to Give Good Advice
Print Books

This text is a compendium of two treatises on the subject of giving advice: Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali's Al-Farq bayna al-Nasihah wa al-Ta’yir, and selected excerpts from Imam al-Sha'rani's Al-Bahr al-Mawrud fi al-Mawathiq wa al-'Uhud.

Ibn Rajab's text, whose title has been translated as "The Difference Between Counsel and Shaming," is a short treatise meant to help the reader distinguish between advice that is permissible and potentially beneficial, as opposed to that which is disliked or impermissible and potentially harmful. It includes chapters on the process for advising scholars, the difference between advising someone to leave sin as opposed to rebuking someone for sin, the characteristics of hypocritical advice and its effects, and more. Ibn Rajab's work is replete with relevant verses from the Qur'an, hadith narrations, as well as statements and stories from the Salaf and the righteous scholars. These verses and narrations serve as evidence for his arguments, as well as illustrations of the principles in action.

Imam al-Sha'rani's text, which consists of selected excerpts from a longer work, begins with a discussion of sincerity towards every Muslim, with a focus on the famous hadith in which the Prophet ﷺ stated "Religion is sincere counsel." It proceeds with a long discussion of the parameters for commanding good and forbidding evil, the process for conducting an argument, the central importance of good character, and the proper balance between not demeaning other Muslims and covering their faults, while still giving advice and preventing sin when appropriate. Similar to Ibn Rajab's text, Imam al-Sha'rani utilizes numerous verses of the Qur'an, hadith narrations, and statements and stories from the righteous among the Muslims to support his work.

Taken together, these two texts provide a concise yet comprehensive discussion of how and when to offer advice, practices and etiquettes to help make the action of giving advice praiseworthy and the advice itself more likely to be effective, and potential missteps and pitfalls to avoid in order to not incur blame or cause additional harm.

[Paperback] The Virtues of al-Shām & Damascus (with Ebook)
Book

In the early hours of Sunday, December 8th, 2024 the liberation of Syria had arrived at our doorsteps. In honor of this historic moment for the Ummah, the IGP team worked around the clock to make this new translation of Imām Abū al-Ḥasan's collection of Hadith available. By Allah's bounty, generosity, and grace, this work was translated, edited, and typeset all on the day of the liberation of Damascus. May Allah bless the people of Sham, accept the sacrifices of their martyrs, and aid them in their next steps towards peace.

Al-Shām, encompassing the modern regions of Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, and neighboring areas, has long been revered as a land of immense spiritual and historical importance within the Islamic tradition. Drawing upon a wealth of prophetic narrations, The Virtues of al-Shām & Damascus offers a glimpse of this sacred region's relevance and continued significance. This work situates al-Shām within the broader framework of Muslim belief and the Prophetic inheritance, examining the role of al-Shām as a central locus of faith, resilience, and divine blessing.

This work, known in Arabic as Fada'il al-Shām wa-Dimashq, is a comprehensive collection of more than 100 reports that highlight the unique virtues of al-Shām, including its designation as a land of divine mercy, a refuge of the righteous, and a site of eschatological significance, as well as a land cherished by Messenger of Allah , graced by angels, and preserved by the piety of its inhabitants.

Many of the reports discuss the historical dimensions and significance of this region, contextualizing its sanctity within the Quranic and prophetic corpus. It includes key narrations emphasizing the region's prominence in Islamic eschatology, as well as its pivotal role as a bastion of faith amidst tribulation. The Virtues of al-Shām & Damascus helps the reader to understand why this land has captivated the hearts of believers across centuries, and continues to do so today.
