Actions performed by the Prophets described as miracles are termed as such because humans are otherwise incapable of doing them. There are two types of miracles: the first type is an action that humans are theoretically able to do, but Allah has made impossible for them as a means of confirming the truthfulness of His Prophet ﷺ. The second type of miracle are those actions outside of a human’s ability. These are miracles that no-one would be able to perform except for Allah.

Out of all the Prophets, the final Messenger ﷺ was sent with the greatest number of miracles, the most magnificent signs, and the clearest proofs. The miracles of the Prophet ﷺ were innumerable. In fact, if one chose just one of those miracles, namely the Qur’an, they would never be able to count the thousands of extraordinary signs contained within it.

About the Author

Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani (1849-1932) was a Palestinian scholar. After his initial studies in his locality, he studied in al-Azhar, Egypt, between 1866 and 1872, where he studied the Islamic disciplines with numerous prominent scholars. He also spent a few years researching and publishing in Istanbul. He served as a chief judge in Jerusalem and then Beirut.

After living in Medina for some time, he returned to Beirut and later passed away there in the beginning of the month of Ramadan. He has left a vast collection of works, on a variety of subjects, but many are focused on the character and being of the Prophet ﷺ.

Miracles of the Messenger (PBUH) compiled by the Darussalam Research Center is an English work that presents a selection of the extraordinary miracles granted to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in addition to the Noble Qur’an, his everlasting, primary miracle. While the Qur’an remains the chief, permanent miracle given to the Prophet ﷺ, Allah also supported him with other miraculous events during his life to strengthen his message, assist him in times of difficulty, and affirm his prophethood to believers and skeptics alike. Al-Shifā bi Taʿrīf Ḥuqūq al-Muṣṭafā, directly translated as, ‘The Remedy (or Cure) Through Recognizing the Rights of the Chosen One’, is one of the most celebrated works in the genre of Shamā’il. It stands uniquely amongst the works of Qāḍī ʿIyād as his most celebrated effort with many surviving manuscripts and commentaries found throughout the Islamic world. “Morning & Evening Invocations and the Ten Sevens before Sunrise & before Sunset” is a litany arranged by the late Shaikh Dr Thaika Shu’aib Alim.
