The decisive encounters between the East and West-- Islam and Christendom--in the fields of war or peace had the most far reaching effects on their destinies. This is one of the most important subjects of Islamic history, indeed perhaps the most important of all. Besides its abundant and eventful episodes, it throws much light on this eternal struggle between the East and the West. As many of these events are scantily dealt with by the Islamic chroniclers, careful reference to Western sources and scholars been made to analyse the subject in detail.
So that whoever is not proficient in it should not speak about it; nor should anyone who is not certain about its general rules as well as its principles enter upon it (i.e. this subject); nor should anyone, who is neglectful in this matter who does not have Ghaira (i.e sense of honor) about the religion of Allah; then as a result the corrupt ideologies and misguided sects will slip into the religion of Allah; then the truth will be mistaken for falsehood; and is charged to the Ummah, which is not from it and that which is not from it will enter into the religion.
And this subject, whoever does not have religious knowledge, Ma'rifa (i.e. learning something by one of his five senses), and Baseerah (i.e. strong understanding and intelligence) it is not permissible for him to speak concerning this matter; no one should be declared an apostate except the one, whom Allah and/or His Messenger (Sallahu Alayhi Wassalam) has declared him to be an apostate due to him committing one of the nullifiers of islam, which has been agreed upon among the people of knowledge.
For that reason it is obligatory upon the Muslims to learn before he speaks, that he does not speak unless it is upon religious knowledge. Otherwise, he will be declaring a Muslim to be an apostate and he will have certainly committed two tremendous crimes; one of the two is more severe than the other. The greater crime is that he spoke about Allah without knowledge.

After having written Kitabul Umrah and Kitabul Haj, many friends requested that duas therein were limited. If anybody wished to read more duas (in Arabic with English translation) relating to Haj or Umrah no other book was readily available. This made me realize that a book on duas (prayers) for the pilgrim (Haj or Umrah) was needed. When I went for Haj in 1986, I came across two excellent pieces of work relating to duas in Haj. The first was "Book of Haj and Umrah Duas" by Allama Qutbuddin Hanafi. This work has been attached to certain editions of Irshadus Sari, a famous book on Haj and Umrah. The second book was a commentary on Al Azkar called "Alfutuhat ar Rabbaniyah" by Allama Muhammad bin Alan Shafi (died 1047 A H). The Al-Azkar is a famous book on duas from the Hadith by the great Shafi scholar Mohiyuddin Abu Zakariya An Nuwawi (died 676 A H).
The Quran, a book which brings glad tidings to mankind along with divine admonition, stresses the importance of man's discovery of truth on both spiritual and intellectual planes. Every book has its objective and the objective of the Quran is to make man aware of the Creation plan of God. That is, to tell man why God created this world; what the purpose is of settling man on earth; what is required from man in his pre-death life span, and what he is going to confront after death. The purpose of the Quran is to make man aware of this reality, thus serving to guide man on his entire journey through life into the after-life. The main themes of the Quran are enlightenment, closeness to God, peace and spirituality. The Quran uses several terms, tawassum, tadabbur, and tafakkur, which indicate the learning of lessons through reflection, thinking and contemplation on the signs of God scattered across the world. The present translation of the Quran and its explanatory notes are written keeping in mind these very themes.

The original 1987 Norwich seminar Usury: The Root Cause of the Injustices of Our Time, whose proceedings form the core of this work, had an extraordinary effect. After the endless analyses and altercations of left and right to which we were accustomed, here was an argument that went to the core of the matter in one bound, and yet did so with a degree of scholarship and indeed erudition that was not cavalier. The result was electric. It was also well before its time. This book contains the texts of the original lectures as well as some contemporary material that updates it. The 80 s material was remarkably prescient, as the reader will discover. However, history has furnished us another opportunity the catastrophic bank collapses of 2008 and the impending total systems shutdown of 2009 to revisit this vital material and place it before the reader. Whatever the result of the signal events of 2008-9 a slide into depression, cataclysmic upheaval or a rebound into dynamic activity the argument in this work still stands: Usury is demonstrably the motor of the injustices of our age. That is the bad news, whose necessary corollary, a delineation of the way out of our global predicament, this book explores.

“It is not at all an innovation to refer to Ahlus-Sunnah as the Salafiyyoon. Rather, the legislative usage of ‘as-Salaf’ corresponds completely with the legislative usage of ‘Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah.’ That is ascertained by contemplating upon the consensus of all of the linguists regarding the Companions. For they (the Companions) are the Salaf and they are Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah. So just as it is correct for us to say: “Sunnee,” as an ascription to Ahlus-Sunnah, it is also correct for us to say:“Salafee,” as an ascription to the Salaf; there is no difference.” A hot topic amongst Muslims today, ‘What is Salafiyyah?’ ‘Who are the Salafees?’ Shaykh ‘Abdus-Salaam as-Suhaymee elucidates this often misunderstood topic. The author begins by explaining the linguistic and legislative meaning of as-Sunnah, listing and clarifying the various legislative names for Ahlus-Sunnah. The legislative meaning of ‘as-Salaf’ is expounded upon, and who is considered to be from the Salafus-Saalih is clearly explained. He clarifies why one should openly manifest themadh-hab of the Salafus-Saalih, name oneself with as-Salafiyyah, and brings some of the evidences of why it is obligatory to follow and cling to this noble madh-hab. Other topics explained includes, the manhaj of the Salafus-Saalih in ‘aqeedah in contrast to the manhaj of the People of Desires. He concludes with a brief explanation of the position of the Salafus-Saalih in refuting the innovators and provides guidance on how Ahlus-Sunnah should deal with the People of Desires.
